Exchanges and Study Abroad Team
Student Exchange Opportunities
Students can participate in study and/or work abroad opportunities as part of their degree. If a student selects to undertake an activity within Europe, many of those opportunities are also eligible to be supported bythe Erasmus+ programme, a European Commission funded scheme*. Successful applicants can participate on the Erasmus+ programme and undertake activities in any of the 32 participating countries (27 EU, 3 EEA and Candidate countries). Students who participate on the programme can be eligible to receive a non-means tested Erasmus+ grant for the duration of the mobility. Study exchanges are subject-specific and must receive credit recognition. In the case of study activities that substitute credit recognition of Level 5 and/or 6, degree classification is affected and the student should be fully aware and confirm acceptance of this prior to participation. An Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement is required to be in place prior to commencing activities. Please contact the School Exchanges Coordinator for more information.
There are also study opportunities available further afield such as Japan, US, Canada, China and Australia. Opportunities available are subject specific. Visit our website for more information on the current student exchange partnerships.
*NEW: Eligible students can also participate on an Erasmus+ graduate traineeship within 12 months of graduation. The student must be nominated by the Department during the student’s last year of studies. Eligibility is subject to available funding.
Erasmus+ funding
The Erasmus+ funding is available for up to 12 months for each academic cycle, subject to available funding. Minimum duration of activity is two (work) and three (study) months. Students who apply to participate on an Erasmus+ mobility can be entitled to an Erasmus+ grant. The Erasmus+ grant is dependent on the type of mobility and the country the mobility takes place. The student can get in touch with the Exchanges and Study Abroad team to confirm the exact grant rate applicable for their activities.*Information about the up-to-date position of the Erasmus+ programme and Brexit can be found on the University website.
Staff Opportunities
Staff teaching/training via Erasmus+
Staff who are contractually employed by UoP are eligible to participate on an Erasmus+ teaching and/or training opportunity. Teaching opportunities are available for academic staff if there is an Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement in place. Training events can be in the form of job shadowing, seminar, workshops etc enhancing the mobility of individuals. Min. duration of activities should be of two working days. Teaching hours should be of minimum eight hours. Conferences are not eligible
Staff training events also consist of Erasmus+ staff training weeks. These weeks are organised by various EU HEIs, and should you be interested in applying for one of these weeks, please contact the Exchanges and Study Abroad team at the earliest opportunity (usually 6-8 weeks prior to mobility or end of January of the current year, whichever precedes first). Please see relevant Erasmus+ staff weeks on the IMOTION platform. All expenses are covered by the Erasmus+ programme, subject to funding regulations. More information can be found on the HR Learning and Development pages.
Partner visits
Should you wish to undertake a partner visit to consolidate relationships and also visit your students whilst on mobility, the Exchanges and Study Abroad team may be able to provide financial support. Please contact the Exchanges and Study Abroad team for this.
