Chaplaincy
Supporting your role as a personal tutor
While your role as a personal tutor has a pastoral component, in giving the message “I want to help…” a key part of this can be signposting to the University Chaplains who have been trained to listen to and to be alongside people at all times of life in a non-judgemental way. Students can pop in at any time to have tea and coffee, and a chat: no appointment is necessary although appointments can be booked if your tutee prefers.
Chaplaincy is a source of pastoral support for all students, so if a student is unsure about seeking specialist support for any difficulties they are experiencing then having a conversation with a chaplain first could be helpful to them. Whilst Chaplaincy is not just a service for those experiencing a spiritual crisis, your tutee may benefit from specialist advice and support if they have questions about religious observance or matters of faith in relation to their academic studies, or other aspects of their student experience.
