Financial hardship

Supporting your role as a personal tutor

If a student expresses to you that they are experiencing any financial difficulties, please encourage them to come and see us for support and advice, particularly if they are considering leaving their course.

We are unable to discuss individual student's situations with you unless they have given permission, as we treat all information we hold confidentially, however we are always happy to answer general questions about the funding available to all groups of students.

We offer the following services

  • Advice on the statutory funding that students are eligible for
  • Possible additional funding from the University Hardship Fund
  • Advice and support to deal with Student Finance England (we can contact them on a student's behalf if the student is with us)
  • Personalised advice on benefit eligibility
  • Information and advice on general money management, for example budgeting, dealing with debt, managing household bills etc.

Who can use Student Finance

Our support is open to all students, including International & EU students who can apply to the hardship fund.
